Hawkstone Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa

Barney’s Heritage Cuvee 2012

Limited release of 5491 cases

While sipping this wine, the Dude of Food felt like he had obtained a bargain. This bottle radiates heritage. From the moment you handle the bottle time slows down a little and you begin to feel the serenity of this creation. This is no fast lane wine. This wine exudes the tranquility, longevity and educated qualities of a chateau in the countryside owned by a university scholar/author. The flavors do not jump out of the glass as a sophisticated lady would not sit with her legs open. The characteristics of this wine, like the sophisticated lady, are more subdued. They have a sense of time and are not in a hurry to get to the end. The delicate balance of depth in fruitiness, richness of earth tones and uniqueness of flavor are well balanced and make this an enjoyable bottle of wine at a reasonable price if you can find one.

La Taberna Gallega in Barcelona makes great paella.

La Taberna Gallega located in the marina in Barcelona, Spain is incredible. The room gets full but the vibe is energetic and upbeat. The staff is super cool and fun. If you are in the Barcelona marina area come on over. There are many places to eat in the marina but I chose this one and was completely satisfied. Best paella and sangria of my life. Take the time and go here. Muchas gracias La Taberna Gallega staff.

The Dude of Food likes Company 77 Fire Truck Pizza

What could be better than great homemade pizza delivered on a fire truck that has beer on tap? These folks have a really good thing going.

The Dude of Food had this truck come to our Christmas party last year and it was well worth it. If you live in the southern California area then you need to experience this party on wheels.

The staff is super cool. The truck is fun and includes a photo booth and beer taps. The pizza is hand crafted, refined and excellent. This is an awesome food truck and would be a huge hit at any tailgate party.

Good Los Angeles Food Trailer

trailer food

The Dude of Food believes if you live in Los Angeles and are looking for a good food truck to cater your party then you may want to call this phone number. I believe he said his name is Noel and he said this number rings to his house. Speak slowly as his English is not perfect. I tried the tacos and menudo and was pleasantly surprised with both. The quality is good and the prices are reasonable. Win/Win situation here.

Add a mariachi band, a michelada bar and a pinata, and you’ll have a great time on your hands.

Gracias amigo.

The Dude of Food is not connected to this vendor and gains nothing from this endorsement.

Reinheitsgebot – The beer quality law imposed by the church.

Reinheitsgebot literally means  “purity order” and is commonly referred to as the “German Beer Purity Law” or the “Bavarian Purity Law”. This is a regulation about the production of beer in the Holy Roman Empire and its successor state, Germany. The original text states the only ingredients that could be used in the production of beer are water, barley and hops.DownloadedFile

The law originated on 30 November 1487, when Albert IV the Duke of Bavaria promulgated it, specifying three ingredients – water, malt and hops – for the brewing of beer.

On 23 April 1516 in the city of Ingolstadt located in the duchy of Bavaria, two other dukes endorsed the law as one to be followed in their duchies and added standards for the sale of beer.

The earliest documented mention of beer by a German nobleman is the granting of a brewing license by Emperor Otto II to the church at Liege (now Belgium), awarded in 974.

The world’s oldest continuously operating brewery is the Weihenstephan Brewery in Bavaria.

The Weihenstephan Brewery can trace its roots at the abbey to 768, as a document from that year refers to a hop garden in the area paying a tithe to the monastery. A brewery was licensed by the City of Freising in 1040, and that is the founding date claimed by the modern brewery. The brewery thus has a credible claim to being the oldest working brewery in the world.  (Weltenburg Abbey, also in Bavaria, has had a brewery in operation since 1050, also known as “Corn Beer” claims to be the oldest brewery in the world.) In 1803, the monastery and brewery became possessions of the State of Bavaria.

Oysters in Fontainebleau

After walking around the Chateau Fontainebleau I realized I had worked up a hunger. As I walked down an alley I saw this cool old fish stand. I bought 2 oysters. 1 was an expensive one and the other was a not quite as expensive one. They were both enjoyable as I sat in France and ate a couple oysters and sipped a beer.

Oysters provide our bodies with protein, iron, omega 3 acids, calcium, zinc, vitamin C and contain no cholesterol.

The guy at the counter shucked them for me so all I had to do was squeeze a lemon wedge and enjoy.
