Paella search Barcelona? See the Cheriff.

When the Dude of Food was wandering around the streets of Barcelona asking folks where he could find the best paella in the city there was 1 name that kept popping up.  Located on a corner in the easily accessible Barcelonetta district, it’s easy to find this restaurant named Cheriff.

cheriff frontCheriff opens for dinner at 8p and there were 3 parties waiting to come in when the doors opened. The Dude began with a bottle of local dry white wine and a salad. cheriff salad

Both were satisfying. Then when it came time to order I had a last minute change of mind and instead of ordering the normal seafood paella I decided to try the black ink squid paella.

The choice turned out to be a good one and the black ink paella with fresh squeezed lemon was delicious.

The Cheriff is a family run place, where mama is running the kitchen and papa is managing the finances. They are great and make awesome food.

The Dude of Food thinks when in Barcelona you need to go here!

You are on the westside. The traffic is a bitch. The air is not as hot as the valley that you escaped from. It’s overcast and you don’t surf anyways. There is no parking by the beach. It’s a mess. The Dude of Food knows the best thing you can do is go get some food at Georges Burgers on Lincoln Blvd and head back home. Georges Burgers is located at 3101 Lincoln Blvd in Santa Monica,  CA  90405

You can call in your request ahead at 310-452-0445

They serve breakfast all day too!

Thank you George’s Burgers.

The Dude of Food meets Off The Shelf catering and likes it!

1shirtGood food is what fuels good thoughts in good creative people which is what the Dude of Food happen to be. It’s when the bean counters in the offices eating their favorite restaurants delivered dishes try to save $80. on lunch for the creative stage crew that the caterers are painted into a corner and forced to serve the equivalents of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or cheap chinese food.

The creative chef, Yossi Faigenblat, worked for Dustin Hoffman as the actors private chef. The food was ‘all that’ and Hoffman encouraged the chef to get into the catering game. That was in 2003. They opened a craft service /catering company for the movie industry. The line ups have changed over the years and OTS has grown and now have a couple trucks in New York and a few more in Los Angeles. Off The Shelf has both catering trucks and craft service trucks so their awesome creative food can be shared with all of the folks behind the scenes that make the actors playgrounds look so fabulous. 1guys

In Feb 9, 2010 Saveur magazine did an article (issue # 127) on movie industry catering companies that included Off The Shelf’s quality food preparation. The link below will take you there.

    http://www.saveur.com/article/Travels/Fresh-Off-The-Truck

OTS is not cheap but will do wonderful things with the budget you have. The goal at Off The Shelf as told to the Dude of Food is ‘high end quality food and making people smile’ and this is something the folks at OTS catering are doing quite well. The Dude of Food would like to personally say ‘Thank you OTS and keep up the good work.”

Off The Shelf can be located at the following web address.   http://www.otscatering.com/

OTS can also be followed on Facebook and other social media outlets.1farms1mbreak

Malbec – TERRAZAS de los Andes 2010

terrazas

Another fine wine from the Mendoza region nestled in Argentina.

TERRAZAS  de  los  Andes    Reserva     Malbec 2010

Produced and bottled by Terrazas de los Andes, Argentina

Selected grapes of the Mendoza region terraces, found a little more than 1,000

meters above sea level,  make their way into this wine. The selectivity of this

wine is probably why it is imported by the Moet Hennessy company.

Personally, this wine is almost as good as my still favorite Malbec, Bodega de

ELENA. The Terrazas is kind of similar to the Elena, but I found it to be a touch

lighter in body and flavor when landing on the tongue. The Terrazas is flowery

and fruity. Perhaps the Terrazas could be imagined as a merlot version of the

Elena if it were imagined as a cabernet of the same vinter.

The Terrazas is a good wine, reasonably priced and will be gone before the

bottles of Mondavi that other people brought to the party.

Red Rock Malbec Reserve 2010

Vinted and bottled by Red Rock winery Healdsburg, CA

This Malbec is grown here in California, not Argentina.

The flavor of this reserve wine lacks the depth of the Bodega de ELENA

Malbec, which is my current favorite. It is not a bad wine, but if looking

for a reasonably priced California red, I’d go Murphy-Goode Cabernet.

World’s best fried egg by Chef Alex

>border grill's own chef alex creates a dude food favorite   All I know is that this thing is amazing.

If you like eggs, then you’ll love this.

Chef Alex, from Border Grill Santa Monica, creates a daily special that he tweets and this happened to be one that the Dude of Food will never forget. This egg dish has been raved about to all my friends in the neighborhood. The shell is pancake batter.
