The Dude of Food does the LA Michelada test.

   mich test

There was a long time that the Dude of Food would not ruin a beer with tomato juice. Then I grew up and learned something. After a trip to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico a few September’s ago my mind was forever changed. It was the time of the annual Revolution Fiesta and San Miguel is where it began.

    The place goes nuts.

To make a long story short I love a homemade michelada and it appears that many others do as well since the big brand brewers are beginning to see the light. These 2 were chosen because they were both brewed in Mexico and imported to the US.

The Dude of Food decided to compare the Tecate Michelada DIABLO to the Modelo CHELADA. I have had a few of these Modelo CHELADA’s and they are OK.  When compared to the Tecate DIABLO though, a world of difference unveils itself.

The DIABLO is softer with a more subtle tomatoey and mildly spicy finish. Compared to the Modelo CHELADA which hits the tongue a bit cleaner and crisper, albeit less tomatoey and the finish falls of quickly.

After tasting separately, what the Dude of Food ended up doing was to mix the 2 equally and drink them that way. The crisp beginning and the tomatoey spice finish were a great combination.

If you don’t know about this spot then you probably shouldn’t, but I have to tell you that after my last trip to Mexico I have become a big fan of the michelada.

It just so happens that they make a good one here.  Pricey but good.

The 50 year anniversary party was awesome.

Tortilla Heater by the Dude of Food

tortilla heaterThis is my attempt at heating tortillas without using oil and a hot pan or grill top. I put the toaster on its side and slid the tortillas in.

Full disclosure – the idea is not a complete success but did work. The better way is still the old fashioned way with fresh tortillas on a grill.

Good Los Angeles Food Trailer

trailer foodThe Dude of Food believes if you live in Los Angeles and are looking for a good food truck to cater your party then you may want to call this phone number. I believe he said his name is Noel and he said this number rings to his house. Speak slowly as his english is not perfect. I tried the tacos and menudo and was pleasantly surprised with both. The quality is good and the prices are reasonable. Win/Win situation here.

The Dude of Food is not connected to this vendor and gains nothing from this endorsement.

The Dude now has trucks.

Hello foodies and everyone else. The Dude of Food has become friends with some of the west sides best rolling mexican fleet. The owners actually have a market where the produce comes from and where the tamales are hand made. Whether you are having a tailgate party, gallery opening, second meal or need food for a late night club event, we can provide awesome options for you to satisfy your guests desires. We are now looking for routes so if you need breakfast, snacks or meals, punch in with the Dude and let’s eat and be happy together.   (note: there is a larger, state of the art truck also available but not pictured)

FISH TACOS

These are easy and delicious. Crack open your favorite mexican beer. Put the other 11

somewhere cold. At the cabin I stick them right in the snow outside the front door.

Next grate some cheese,  chop onions, lettuce, tomato and avacado and put the piles into

separate small bowls.  Pan fry some red snapper, halibut or shrimp in light oil. Bake some

tortillas so they are warm and soft, but be mindful not to dry them out. I like them warm but not too steamy.

Once all the ingredients are layed out, create a conga line along the taco prep area and enjoy. You can

add salsa and a squeeze of lime per taste if so desired.

Fiesta!
